FAQ’s

  • What is the Maronite Youth Organization (MYO)?
The MYO is a faith-based community for middle school, high school, and college-aged youth within the Maronite Catholic Church. It’s a place to grow in faith, friendship, and service while celebrating our Maronite heritage and traditions.
  • What does “Maronite” mean?
The Maronite Church is an Eastern Catholic Church that follows the Antiochene tradition and is in full communion with Rome. Our spirituality and liturgy trace back to St. Maron and the early Christians of Lebanon and Syria.
  • What is an Eparchy?
An Eparchy is the Eastern Catholic term for a Diocese; a group of parishes led by a bishop. Our MYO belongs to the Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles, which serves Maronite parishes across the western and central United States. Our Bishop is Bishop A. Elias Zaidan. The Eparchy supports and connects local MYOs through regional retreats, leadership formation, local resources, and national youth gatherings.
  • Do I have to be Maronite to join?
Not at all! While we celebrate our Maronite faith and culture, all youth who want to grow closer to Christ in a Catholic community are welcome.
  • Who can join the MYO?
Youth ages 12-18 (and still in high school).
  • How do I join?
You can sign up by contacting your parish MYO advisor, registering at an upcoming local event, or filling out the form on this website and we can connect you to your local advisor (tbd if we should do form).
  • Is there a cost to join?
There’s no cost to be part of the MYO on an Eparchial level, though certain events and retreats fees to cover meals, materials, or lodging. There may be local dues that vary based on parish.
  • What’s expected of members?
Members are encouraged to attend local meetings regularly, participate in service and faith events, and be open to growing spiritually and as leaders. Members are also encouraged to attend their regional retreat and the annual National MYO Conference
  • What is a regional or national MYO retreat?
Regional retreats are weekend experiences where youth from across parishes from their region gather for prayer, music, talks, games, and reflection; a chance to encounter Christ and connect with others. The National Conference is a similar structure held for a week the last week of June including all Maronite parishes across the country with our brothers and sisters from the Eparchy of Saint Maron of Brooklyn
  • How can I find out about upcoming events?
Check the events calendar on our website, follow our Instagram page, or sign up for our email list.
  • What’s the difference between parish, regional, and national MYO?
Each local MYO belongs to a region (like the Midwest or West). These regions connect through annual retreats and national conferences led by the MYO Offices on an Eparchial and national level.
  • What makes MYO different from other youth groups?
MYO is rooted in the Maronite Catholic tradition; a blend of ancient spirituality, joyful worship, and strong community. We focus on helping teens live out their faith in a modern world while staying connected to their spiritual heritage.
  • How does MYO help me grow in my faith?
Through community, prayer, and the sacraments. MYO helps you encounter Jesus in a real way and discover that faith isn’t just something you just learn; it’s something you live.
  • How many regions are there?
There are 4 regions in our Eparchy: West, Mid America, South, and Midwest, spanning from California to Ohio; Minnesota to Texas, and all the states in between.
